Kenya is mourning the untimely death of popular comedian KK Mwenyewe, born Zachariah Kariuki, who passed away on the night of Monday, July 14, 2025, after a brief illness.
He was pronounced dead at Kiambu Level 4 Hospital, according to his close friend and longtime collaborator, Kafengo.

Kafengo, who broke the heartbreaking news via social media, shared a moving tribute: “Rest in peace brother, you will forever be in our hearts. To the family and friends, may God give us strength during these hard times.”
The news has sent shockwaves across the Kenyan creative community, with fans, fellow comedians, and public figures expressing grief over the loss of one of the country’s brightest young comedic talents.
Born in 2002, KK Mwenyewe rose to fame in 2022 with his viral impersonations of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, mastering the politician’s distinct speaking style, mannerisms, and famously awkward fashion choices.

His satirical videos quickly gained traction, earning him a massive following on TikTok where he amassed over 1 million followers and nearly 20 million likes, making him one of the fastest-rising Kenyan content creators at the time.
His sudden passing has triggered an outpouring of condolences. Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah described him as a “courageous and talented artist whose work resonated with a generation.”
