Ghana sent a team made up of all-girls to the recently concluded World Robofest Championship in the U.S and they emerged the top. The championship took place from May 16 to 18 at the Lawrence Technological University in Michigan. They beat teams from countries like the U.S, Egypt and South Korea.
The team of nine girls named ‘Team Acrobot’, managed to successfully dominate the ten challenging categories in the championship.
According to Face2Face Africa, the team was able to build a robot that arranged boxes in binary numbers given to them. There was also another team from Ghana made up of five boys in the junior division called Team Cosmic Intellect. They came out the 6th out of the 52 teams in that division.
The two teams were funded by the Ghana Robotics Academy Foundation which organized competitions until the top two were picked.
Robofest was started in 1999 to offer students the opportunity to learn the principles of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The teams compete in the junior, senior and college divisions.
