Ericsson announces Sh2.8M innovation award for university students

ericsson

Ericsson has announced the launch of the sixth annual Innovation Awards, a competition in which university students are given the opportunity to be drivers of fundamental change in society.

The theme of the 2015 competition is “The Future of Learning”. The challenge will address questions such as how can we make learning accessible for all? What do we need when lifelong learning becomes necessary for everyone? What are the new tools and methodologies when learning becomes an online activity and it happens more and more away from school buildings?

Kenyan Universities have emerged winners in previous Ericsson continental challenges and it is hoped that they will also do well in the Innovation Awards.

In Ericsson’s vision of the Networked Society, technology fundamentally transforms the way lives are organized, and how businesses and societies run.

Empowered by technology, students and progressive teachers are catalysts for fundamental change. New skills and the passion for constant learning are becoming increasingly important. A new ecosystem is emerging that is greatly impacting, and in some cases redefining, established systems and institutions.

The winners will receive a prize 25 000 EUR (Sh2.8M) with the runners-up receiving 10 000 EUR (Sh1.1M) and 5 000 EUR (Sh500,000) going to the third-placed team.
All semi finalists and finalists will also be given the opportunity to interview for internship or permanent employment at Ericsson.

The competition is open to a team of two to four people, and Ericsson recommends a combination of technology and business students in the team. To apply and register to the competition visit www.ericssoninnovationawards.com.
