Up to 40 academically gifted Kenyans have landed scholarships to some of the world’s most prestigious universities this year after enrolling with the Equity African Leaders Programme (EALP).

The programme is a product of the Equity Group Foundation (EGF).

EGF ChairmanJames Mwangi said the scholars who sat their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination last year, have received admission to undergraduate studies in some of the best universities.

“We are proud to witness another group of students being airlifted to leading world universities after a year’s mentorship among other gifted scholars admitted to this year’s EALP,” he said.

EALP has benefited more than 1,965 scholars who have studied or are studying in local and foreign universities. The scholars intern at Equity Bank branches before joining universities and during holidays.

The success of the initiative will push the total number of students under the programme abroad to 190.

Mwangi was speaking when he confirmed the admissions last week.

The leading universities that have offered scholarships include Arizona, Yale, Toronto, Harvard, McGill, Stanford, Amherst, Bowdoin, Brown and Cambridge.
