‘Doba za Wagenge’ translated into English stands for “music for the people.” The project takes on eight tracks, reflecting the day to day, inner-city on-goings Nairobi encompasses from the lens of rap renegade, Lastii and GI Selects the #HeartoftheCulture.

Lastii who is considered a fresh-faced newcomer in the Kenyan music industry is revered for his relentless rhyming, raw and impactful storytelling, as well as his virtuosic nature to drop on-the-spot freestyles. His relatability and resonance to the ordinary Kenyan in his expressive lyricism as well as his catchy hook-making prowess, easy-going verses, and awe-dropping lingo have made him one of the most prolific Kenyan artists to look out for.

GI, on the other hand, who is the architect behind the project discovered Lastii through a tip from his neighborhood bike guy who affirmed to him, “Lastii was a talent to watch”. GI, who has been in the music industry for almost a decade now heeded to the word and asked to meet with Lastii, whom he says was still in his final year in high school when they met.

The project retains its value in meshing undiscovered gems in the Kenyan music industry by only featuring rappers and singers that are completely underground but gross desirable talent. They include Malika, Kosti Mgaza, Mysling Nadra, and Toxic Westside who all star unequivocally on the record.

However, Wakadinali and Rong Rende first lady Dyana Cods appears on the track “Anaipenda” that boasts seamless chemistry between Lastii and herself. Representing the ladies and giving the project a different texture for the listeners’ devour, the track zooms into the mind of how the two view being in a relationship that favors them both.
