Award winning Afro Dancehall artist Stonebwoy, the beloved Ghanaian superstar who released his Def Jam Recordings debut Therapy in May, follows that track with Gidigba (Firm and Strong).
A potent fusion of HipHop, Afropop and Dancehall sound that has significantly made him one of Africa’s most important artists, the musician now boasts over four million followers on Instagram and over three million on Facebook.
Composed shortly after the completion of a play, the BhimNation president refines his filmmaking catalogue, striking a delicate balance between theatrics playwright and couture connoisseur. The plot of the GIDIGBA movie follows the tale of a young boy who’s endured an excruciating fall from grace when his parents are murdered, and he is thrown headfirst into the slums, bargaining with death in an unending struggle to escape troubles.
Gidigba is what fans are craving from Stonebwoy,” He declares. “It has an original Stonebwoy factor, but it can also be for the progressive audience we’re trying to achieve. I can bet on this song in terms of lyrics. Gidigba is a street term – it’s a Nigerian, Yoruba term that means ‘firm & grounded.’ Africa will gravitate towards this and it is produced by Nigerian record producer Phantom.”
Stonebwoy’s signing to the global Def Jam artist family represents a historic partnership between Universal Music Group (UMG) label divisions Def Jam Africa, Def Jam Recordings in the U.S., and 0207 Def Jam in the UK. They share a commitment to showcasing Stonebwoy’s electric sound and Ghanaian music culture to new audiences around the world.
