Lupita Nyong’o’s younger brother Junior is now engaged.
The young man who previously stirred headlines for his fashion choices popped the question to his longtime bae Wanja Wohoro. The couple professed their love for each other before a group of friends and family in an intimate setting on a sunny Nairobi day, this past weekend.
The twosome who previously modeled for a gender-fluid clothing line shared the tender moment before friends of Nairobi’s who is who including Karen Kaz Lucas, radio host and creative Patricia Kihoro, Deejay Kace, photographer Lyra Aoko, singer Karun and many more. According to the stories shared on Instagram, Junior proposed to Wanja with a ring from a specialty Lord of Rings jewelry shop.
Empawa 100 finalist Wanja has been dropping hints about the intense love she shares for the Governor of Kisumu’s son Junior. Taking to the gram on October 14th, she wrote, “Home is with people. I never knew I could get so lucky to find another home in another human outside of the small family I know. It’s a gift. A gift you work at. Work for. Work with. Work through. Junior is one of the brightest beams of light ever to cast their shimmer on this earth. Bright, strong, beautiful, bold, brilliant and eternally blooming.”
The duo spend lots of time together on vacation and even share a collaborative project for Lupita Nyong’o’s first children’s book dubbed Sulwe. The couple just shared the track ‘Bright’ is now available to stream on all platforms, just a few days after the book was officially launched as reported by The Sauce. The children’s book tackles a tough subject in the world we live in today, colorism. Speaking about her first book, she said “I wrote #Sulwe to encourage children (and everyone really!) to love the skin that they are in and see the beauty that radiates from within.”

The engagement came as a shocker to the public as Junior was previously branded as queer for his gender-fluid style of dressing. He made headlines on The Sauce for his eccentric choice of clothing, Junior who also goes by the name Junelope Jones had been seen in a dress at Blankets & Wine, long earrings and has even adorned flowers in his hair. In a 3-part series released in 2018 “What If Adam was Eve” photographed by Lyra Aoko, Kisumu Governor’s son Junior took things a bit further. Photographed in red lipstick and red nail polish, the Stetson University graduate was the muse for the shoot which left many baffled.
But it seems the love birds share similar values, and are not confined by the perceptions of others.
