TikTok has unveiled a set of new features aimed at giving users more control over what shows up on their For You feed.
The updates are designed to help users explore their interests more easily, discover new creators, and tailor their experience on the app.
At the heart of the TikTok experience is the For You feed—a personalised stream where users encounter trending topics and creators, while communities and small businesses connect with new audiences.
According to Adam Presser, TikTok’s Head of Operations & Trust & Safety, the latest tools aim to make the feed even more relevant: “With our new features, you can manage topics in your feed and limit keywords or hashtags you’d rather avoid—making it easier to discover content and creators you love.”
What’s New:
Manage Topics
This tool lets users control how often they see content from over 10 popular categories such as Travel, Sports, Nature, and Creative Arts. While it won’t completely block topics, it will adjust how often they appear, helping the feed adapt as user interests evolve.
Smart Keyword Filtering
This update is an improved version of TikTok’s existing filter. It allows users to exclude not just specific keywords but also related terms and synonyms. The keyword limit has been doubled to 200, and new bulk-add options make it easier to manage preferences. To date, users worldwide have applied keyword filters over 190 million times.
For You Feed 101 Guide
TikTok is launching a user-friendly educational guide to help users better understand how their For You feed is curated. It explains why content is recommended, offers personalization tips, and includes videos that have already garnered over 180 million views globally.
These updates are available for both teen and adult accounts and build on existing safety measures. This includes:
1. Strict content eligibility standards for the For You feed
2. Tools to refresh the feed or mark videos as “not interested”
3. A Restricted Mode for limiting sensitive content
4. Measures to reduce the frequency of potentially problematic topics
