When it comes to maintaining a good skincare regime, we often overlook our underarms. We mostly shower, slap on deodorant and rush out the door without thinking about our armpits.
Without proper attention to the sensitive area, problems such as bumpy texture, ingrown hair, weird odor, and hyper-pigmentation can become long-term issues or cause awkward social moments. Luckily, these issues are easily fixable with a proper underarm care routine.
To ensure that your pits get the extra TLC it needs, below are tips on underarm care and the best skincare routine to practice. These tips work great for men and women alike.
Tone and Moisturize
Once you’ve dried your armpits from washing it’s important to apply a toner. A toner can do a whole lot for your underarms with just a cotton pad and swipe. It works well to remove bacteria as well as leftover residue from deodorants and antiperspirants. Some toners work better than others, so make sure to look for one that fits your skin needs.
After the toner has dried, apply a gentle moisturizer. In the same way, your face and body crave moisture; your underarms need hydration to look and feel healthy. They just don’t need it as frequently.
Exfoliate
Just like the rest of your body, your underarms can benefit from exfoliation. This is an important part of underarm care because it removes unwanted deep-seated bacteria and dead skin giving your underarm skin some much-required nourishment. Regular exfoliation also keeps unwanted dark marks at bay. You can also use a mild exfoliating scrub or a washcloth or loofah with your favorite body cleanser. Gently clean the underarm in a circular motion. It’s not necessary to buy harsh chemical exfoliates.
Cleanse
Though washing is self-explanatory, dedicate the right amount of time to the underarm while taking a shower/bath. Even if you don’t shower every day, at least make sure to cleanse your armpits before you swipe on some deo and call it a day. Because of the folds present, the area tends to retain moisture and is more prone to germs and bacteria. Keep in mind that your armpits are sensitive therefore use a mild soap.
Deodorant
There are one too many deodorants flooding the market and it may take you a bit of trial and error to find one that works for you. If your deodorant is causing irritation, dark arms, or leaving too much residue on your skin and clothing, choose another. Choose a deodorant that suits your underarms’ skin condition, lifestyle, and perspiration level.
The skin present in folds of your body-like underarms can often get clogged and giving them the right amount of care and nourishment can prove to be quite a boon for the body part and will have you raising your arms without a care in the world
