Kenyan musician Bahati has recently brought attention to a concerning trend in the country’s music scene.
The hitmaker took to Instagram noting that the top trending songs in Kenya are predominantly from Tanzanian and Nigerian artists.
Bahati emphasized that for Kenyan musicians to achieve global recognition, collaboration and teamwork are essential.
“No solo Kenyan artist can take our sound Global on their own and their own that’s a fact,” said Bahati in the post.
“Tumeacha jirani analala hadi na bibi zetu,” moaned the singer.
He urged his fellow artists to unite their talents, as failure to do so might result in Kenyan artists being relegated to the role of mere curtain raisers for their counterparts from neighboring countries.
Despite the challenges, Bahati praised Kenya as the heart of African entertainment and acknowledged the presence of great leaders within the industry.
His call for unity and collaboration has found support from fellow artist Eric Omondi, who echoed Bahati’s sentiment with the phrase “Wameanza Kuamka” (meaning “they have begun to wake up”).
This awakening among Kenyan artists may pave the way for a stronger and more prominent presence in the global music arena.
