The 7th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) went down this past weekend in Lagos, Nigeria.
The event was hosted by our very own Capital FM Kenya breakfast show presenter Amina Abdi Rabar alongside veteran Nigerian host IK Osakioduwa.
The multi-talented media personality who is known to host some of Kenya’s biggest events like the Koroga Festival became the first East African emcee to host the pan African movie awards.

Amina brought her A-game to the AMVCA if the overwhelming feedback from fans is anything to go by. Viewers applauded the mother of one’s stage presence, language fluency, voice projection, beauty and outfits.






The award-winning media siren had a total of four looks for the awards and a dedicated team who made sure that she looked like the star she is.
Speaking to The Sauce after the Awards ceremony, Amina said that she was both humbled and elated to have hosted the prestigious awards. She intimated that she would love to host the awards again and other International shows as she is now ready to take on the world stage.

Amina who has worked on various shows on the DStv platforms like Maisha Superstar and The Turn Up on Maisha Magic East was also grateful for the team that helped her prep for the D-day.
“The preparation was in detail. The incredible producers of the show we’re extremely attentive to everything. I’ve never worked with such a team, they were amazing, ” said Amina.
Amina was not the only Kenyan who shone at the awards ceremony, Pascal Tokodi, the only East African nominee bagged a major award.

The singer and actor bagged the best-supporting actor award for his role in the 2018 Kenyan movie ‘Disconnect’.
His Instagram post about the win was well received by fans who showered him with congratulatory messages.
The ‘Selina’ actor whose real name Pascalino Lpesinoi Lenguro, beat renowned actors who were nominated in the same category including Ramsey Noah (Living in Bondage), Richard Mofe Damoijo (Seven), Nkem Owoh (God Calling) and Remilekun ‘Safaru’ (King of Boys).
The best Indigenous Language Movie/TV Series Swahili went to the 2019 movie starting Brenda Wairimu titled ‘Subira’ which was directed by Raveet Sippy Chadh.
Kenyan actress Sarah Hassan’s 2019 romantic movie ‘Plan B’ won the best East Africa movie beating other contenders like Kenya’s ‘Disconnect’ movie which was directed by Iman Mueke.
Kenyan stars can only go on up from here, Kenya to the world.
