Akothee to tackle hunger-striken Turkana with the launch of the Akothee Foundation

Esther Akoth also known as Akothee is going where no other public figure has gone. The mother, musician, businesswoman, and philanthropist has taken steps to make her mission in Kenya’s arid Turkana County a priority.

The northern area of Kenya which has been severely hit by drought has seen many die from hunger and malnutrition; while animals barely survive the killer weather conditions.  Akothee who previously visited Turkana County on several occasions as reported on The Sauce, made donations and visited with locals. While leaders denied claims that Kenyans are dying of starvation in Turkana earlier in March 2019, the ‘Abebo’ singer called on her fans, family, friends and fellow celebrities to contribute towards her ‘Let’s Feed The Starving in Turkana’ pay bill where she managed to raise kshs 3 million.

Now, based on a recent announcement on her social media accounts, Akothee is dedicating her time and efforts to improving the lives of hunger-striken people of Turkana. The Kenyan beauty hosted the official launch of the Akothee Foundation at the Weston Hotel on 28.09.2019. Various esteemed guests in attendance including respected scholar and leader P.L.O Lumumba, Turkana Central leader Ekwe Ethuro, Nairobi Women’s Representative Esther Pasarris, Italian Ambassador Alberto Pier, Roberto Lenzi as well as several corporate big wigs from Peptang and many more.

Akothee expressed her excitement to do more for the people of Turkana. Launched under the motto ‘Aspire to make a Difference’, the Akothee Foundation will see the singer and mother of five create and execute strategies to meet immediate hunger needs in the area and even work towards more sustainable means of fighting poverty and hunger in the area of Turkana.

Taking to Instagram, she said “A foundation is not a joke and a very a sensitive organization where many will look for a downfall, some will look at it from a distance and judge! Some will only come on board when things are successful, some will only associate just be seen or build a name .thank you for everyone who came on board.”

According to the Akothee Foundation site, Turkana is only the beginning. The ‘Muje’ crooner “aspires to make a difference by catering for the needy and hunger stricken communities in the country and its environs”.
