Singer Esther Akoth aka Akothee is the real madam boss and this is because she has done what a big chunk of what our government has failed to do, offer famine relief to the drought-stricken people of Turkana.
As reported by The Sauce last week, while leaders denied claims that Kenyans are dying of starvation, the ‘Abebo’ singer called on her fans, family, friends and fellow celebrities to contribute towards her ‘Let’s Feed The Starving in Turkana’ pay bill where she managed to raise kshs 3 million.
Over the weekend the mother of five who teamed up with Silverstone air, Britania and Chris Cooper the founder of a school meal giving program, took food to various places in Turkana County feeding about 1800 people. ‘Madam boss’ as she popularly known proceeded to fill her timeline with photos of her acts of service to the ‘forgotten’ people of Turkana who are at the brink of starvation. This included delivering foodstuffs and other donations to the people in 3 different villages and interacting with the community while wearing traditional Turkana regalia.

The controversial singer was accompanied by supermodel Ajuma Nasenyana who hails from Turkana and the area leader Joyce Emanikor. Speaking about her efforts in the area Akothee said that her efforts to help the Turkana were “not to prove anything” but to be of help to those who needed it most. She added that she only wanted to bring hope to the people of Turkana to know that other Kenyans care about them and that we can always find solutions to problems such as drought.
Akothee who plans to bring her caravan to other parts of the country affected by the drought also revealed that Turkana has a special place in her heart because she was raised in Turkana, lived in Kakuma and even went to school at Turkwel Girls School while her father was an Administrator there.
She finally thanked Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko who also had his own caravan of lorries ferrying foodstuffs and other necessities to the people of Turkana.
Akothee recent charity work is not the first nor the last. According to a post by Akothee’s manager and lover Nelly Oaks, the singer has asked that 50% of the proceeds from her world tour scheduled to start this April will go towards funding long term solutions to famine in Kenya.
