The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) officially took over the roles and functions of the Joint Admission Board but with an expanded mandate including colleges. Its main function to co-ordinate the placement of government sponsored students in universities and colleges.
The placement service sets a cut-off point for students who have completed their KCSE exams. A mean grade of B (60 points) for male candidates and B- (58 points) for the female candidates was the last cut-off set during a meeting that was held discussing the various ways they could make the program a success. The decision was arrived after consideration of the total declared capacities for degree programmes under the government sponsorship and performance analysis of the 2014 K.C.S.E result.
This decision also put into consideration the K.C.S.E. candidates with a minimum overall grade of C- and those that had not benefited from the government sponsorship in the past were eligible to apply for diploma programmes which were also being offered.
KUCCPS made it clear and easier for all applicants to access the website by posting the application process and information online. The service has also posted the relevant guiding information such as degree and diploma programmes per university and college, subject clusters among others. Applications can only be done online.
This year’s degree and diploma selection began on Monday, April 20th 2015 and closed on Monday May 4th 2015. The placement service also won the academic solutions excellence award at the ICT value awards that is held on the 3rd of December 2014.
The goal of KUCCPS is to promote equality and access to universities and colleges education, among others. It is also developing criteria for affirmative action, for the marginalized, the minorities and persons with disabilities
