Mondays are a health hazard.
Research in Hong Kong has found that those who dread the beginning of a new week are at risk of long-term stress and poor heart health.
The anxiety isn’t exclusive to those who work as retirees showed signs of increased stress on Mondays even after they had given up their jobs.
The experts believe that the 19 per cent increase in heart attacks and sudden cardiac deaths on Mondays is unlikely to be random and suggested that the dysregulation of the body’s stress management system is connected to the start of the week.
Professor Tarani Chandola, lead author of the research at the University of Hong Kong, said: “Mondays act as a cultural ‘stress amplifier’.
“For some older adults, the week’s transition triggers a biological cascade that lingers for months.
