Drop It Down Low! Six Benefits Of Twerking

Twerking is a form of dance performed through sensual pelvic movements.

Also called perreo or grinding, it is said to have originated in the late 90’s in Puerto Rico, however, thanks to pop culture and stars like Beyoncé, Rihanna, Cardi B, Miley Cyrus, Megan Thee Stallion among many others, the form of dance has become popular globally.

Though controversial with some cringing at the mention of twerking due its highly sexualized nature, experts say the dance has its benefits.

Here are some why reasons you should give twerking a try.

It tones your legs and butt

When twerking, you’re pretty much holding a squat for the better part of an hour. Hello, rock solid thighs! Not only that, the booty pops and shakes work your glutes in ways they’ve probably never been worked before.

It improves your core strength

Twerking requires you to brace your abs in order to properly engage your lower body muscles. So, much like pole dancing, it’s an amazing core workout.

Constantly twerking for an hour, will burn somewhere between 300 and 480 calories in an hour, about the same as 60 minutes of power yoga or an hour of moderate jogging.

It strengthens your arms

Who needs to bench press when you can wall twerk instead? There’s a move called the ‘sexy push-up’ you can do instead and it’s just like a normal push-up, only way more fun.

It improves your confidence

Twerking is fantastic for your body confidence, you will feel like Beyoncé as you pop your booty to the beat. Also when you twerk , it improves the body structure, this can boost your self confidence and make your body curves more obvious.

Stress reliever

Just like dance, twerking can relieve you of stress. When twerking, you tend to have fun at it, it helps forget situations that are stressing you out. Also, it improves balance, flexibility, and coordination.

Boosts your sex life

Twerking can serve as a foreplay which improves the sex life between couple. It’s great for unleashing your inner goddess (which will no doubt work wonders in the bedroom).Twerking for your partner is as equally arousing for the giver as it is for the receiver.

Twerking is a great way to dance to your favorite song or workout and have fun simultaneously. Once you learn the basic moves, twerking is easy.
