The BAKE (Bloggers Association of Kenya) Awards are here again and this year is panning out to be the year for the multifaceted Joy Kendi.
The popular awards ceremony known for celebrating local creatives is set to honor trendsetters in technology, fashion, lifestyle, education, and even agriculture. The annual awards which began in 2012 goes into its 7th year running and has taken a new approach with new names making the final nomination list. BAKE officials announced voting began on May 7th and is set to close on May 30th ahead of the gala slated for June 8th, 2019.
The most notable nominations see Fashion and Lifestyle blogger Joy Kendi in the top category of ‘Kenyan Blog of the Year‘ alongside Magunga.com, Brighter Monday as well as Tizi Talks. Former Capital FM Lifestyle editor and now television host Sharon Mundia is also nominated for ‘Best Lifestyle Blog’ alongside Joy Kendi and Potentash.
There are also some prominent names that did not make the cut this year including renowned creative writer and ‘Drunk’ author Biko Zulu, food blogger Soni Side Up as well as fashion vlogger Geek on Fashion.

According to BAKE, the Awards were started in 2012 as a reward mechanism to recognize exceptional Kenyan bloggers. Each year in January, Kenyans get a chance to submit blogs to participate in the awards. Once submission phase is closed, selected judges go through the submitted blogs and choose the best 5 blogs from each category that will proceed to the voting phase.
