There are some institutions that are so prestigious that money alone will not guarantee admission. You need to be smart, really smart. It helps if you have other notable talents like sports or leadership, but you are still not guaranteed admission because the competition is stiff. Unlike Kenyan institutions where average grades and enough money can get you admitted to almost any campus, there are some universities out there especially in the US, Europe and Asia that require more than the bare minimum. Below are just a few I have compiled:
Curtis Institute of Music
The Curtis Institute of Music is based in Philadelphia and is known to produce the best minds in music. It has an acceptance rate of 3.2 percent. Basically, you have a better chance of winning the lottery than getting a place at the Institute. Admission at Curtis is highly selective because students get personalized coaching by the teachers. The institution accepts just enough students to maintain a full symphony orchestra and an opera program, plus select departments in piano, guitar, composition, conducting and harpsichord. All Curtis students receive merit-based full-tuition scholarships. As a result, artistic promise is the only consideration for admission. Generous financial aid likewise ensures that every student accepted to Curtis can afford to attend.
Harvard University
Established in 1636, Harvard is one of the oldest universities in the US and part of the prestigious Ivy League universities. The University has an acceptance rate of about 7 percent. Harvard is one of the best learning institutions in the world and this is why so many students aspire to be join the institution. With so many students seeking admission, a single mistake in your SATs or other admission tests means you are out of the admission list. It doesn’t stop there. Once you finally get in, you must keep up with the high academic and extracullicur standards or you will be discontinued. There is a reason why it holds the title as one of the best universities win the world with Presidents like John Kennedy and President Obama who graduated from there and many other world leaders.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Massachusetts Institute of Technology popularly known as MIT. This is a university best known to produce bets math and computer brains in the world. Undoubtedly, they take only the best of the best when it comes to the SAT’s. You definitely will not see the walls of this school if you were to make just a slight error in your entry admissions. Am sure we all have heard of this institute, I personally heard of this university even before I joined high school because of the many aspirants who would like to join it. It is one of the best institutions for a future engineer and furthermore the demand for hard work in the school is unquestionable I guess that is why it holds the reputation it has!
Yale University
Yale University is a private Ivy League research university located in New Haven, Connecticut. Founded in 1701, the university is the third oldest institution of higher education in the United States. Admission to Yale is highly and statistics show that its acceptance rates have actually decreased. The Institution raises the bar every so often especially if a particular batch of students is exceptionally good. The university has a history of producing distinguished alumni like actress Meryl Streep, Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward, and actor Edward Norton.
Columbia University
Columbia University has one of the lowest acceptance rates compared to other universities in the world. The university is based in New York, the city of dreams! This university is known to be a very prestigious school alongside universities such as Princeton. Students that get an admission to Columbia University have a higher chance of receiving financial aid. But over the past few years the school has recorded very low acceptance rates as compared to other universities. With alumnus such as Barack Obama who graduated from the Columbia undergraduate College, the school undoubtedly does produce the best.
Indian Institute of Technology
The Indian Institute of Technology (Delhi) takes this place on my list. The institution is known to be one of the best engineering institutions in India. You may be wondering what happened to Stanford and Princeton that are also known to have very low acceptance rates but IIT surpasses them. The fact that IIT only has one entry exam with entrance score above the average. The school avails about 4000 slots but the applicants are about 150000. Without doubt getting into this school is not easy at all.

I don’t know where you got your stats from but they’re off, or just outdated. http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2013-04-01/local/38179814_1_students-harvard-university-columbia-college
