4 Awesome Kenyan Apps That Every Student Should Download

A 2013 research by Consumer Insight Kenya found that at least 2 out of every 3 young Kenyans want a Smartphone as their next phone. In 2017, the number of young smartphone users is quite high. Students can make better use of smartphones by having apps that make their life a bit better other than just spending time on social media.

Education Apps
There are apps that have study notes that students can make use of. Since most young people spend time on their phones, using that time to scroll through class notes might not be such a bad idea. Some of these apps have features that enable one to capture notes via the phone camera while the lecturer displays them through the projector. Evernote is a great education app that can be found on the play store. AirKlip, which was developed by Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology students, contains notes and timetables from different campuses in Kenya. One may need to check for updates on this app because its usage has been quite low. Most universities nowadays have in-house apps that have notes for various courses. One such app is Study App for Moi University’s Information Sciences students.

Student Planner Apps
Does it take you seven alarms for you to get up from bed? Do you miss classes every now and then because you ‘forgot’ about it? Having a student planner one might help. Schedule your time with apps such as Google Keep. This will help you have an orderly day and you will find time to complete your assignments on time and focus on other activities such as side-hustles or even sports. Time is the one resource students and young people have in plenty so it would be best to make it work for you.

Budgeting Apps
Money makes the world go round.  It is important to have a budget that helps you organize your finances and what better way to do that than through an app! You can always edit and go through it as often as you like. How many times do you unlock your phone to stare blankly at your gallery? How about going through your finances? Student Budget Planner is one such app and can be downloaded from Google Play Store.

Security Apps
There’s a lot of insecurity in the world we live in today. If you enjoy going out late at night, it is important to have an app that you can tap and open quick enough to send an alert. Usalama is an app that sends an alert to the police once you open it and ‘shake’ your phone.
