Cardi B is not one to toe the line, and in her latest video ‘Press’, the BET Best Album of the Year 2019 winner has made it clear that she will not conform.
Pushing the boundaries in the video, the track starts off with two women (Cardi B and an unknown woman) passionately kissing. It is revealed that Cardi B was in a threesome and it later pans to Bronx babe Cardi B smoking up a cigarette clad in white lingerie and coking a gun. Cardi is visibly angry. Cardi is later escorted into the police station where she is supposedly questioned for killing a woman.
3 Most shocking scenes of ‘Press’ that are worth noting:
1. Nipple-free Cardi B
One of the big shocking moments of the video reveals Cardi walking towards the camera. With an air of determination and anger, her naked body is revealed; shocking audiences as she comes closer to the camera. Her body has no nipples or vagina, making her looked like an alien-like creature. With splatters of blood on her side and across her torso, it is clear that the plot has thickened as Cardi hopes to clear her name. She and her dance crew also appear later fully nude, with no vaginas. The strange vision makes what would be otherwise awkward to watch, not so bad after all.
2. Free Cardi
Cardi B appears before 10 judges, to answer for charges of murder. Dressed in white with a white veil on her head, is a vision of the Black Madonna incarnate. Perhaps a clever move to subconsciously comment on her innocence, the outfit of choice is in stark contrast to the violent rhymes. The internet star turned Grammy winner has some aggressive lyrics befitting of the situation. She sings, “Everyone drop on the floor, She was talkin’ but not anymore,
Mac to your face like contour, This chopper come straight from Dior, Done with the talkin’, I’m open to violence, Ask anybody, they know I’m about it, Hashtag whip that ho ass, Fuck around, we gon’ start a new challenge (woo)
I come in this bitch and I’m strapped up and ready…”
3. Cardi: Innocent until proven guilty
As she speaks about her involvement in the alleged crime, Cardi has a word with her advisers and suddenly 3 members of the court’s attendance are bleeding on the courtroom floor. Dead, wallowing in a pool of their blood, the visuals transition to Cardi’s crew’s lifeless bodies spewed across the asphalt in an abandoned road. Cardi is a killer. “Press, press, press, press, press (Cardi); Cardi don’t need more press; Kill ’em all, put them hoes to rest (woo); Walk in, bulletproof vest (yeah); Please tell me who she gon’ check (who?); Murder scene, Cardi made a mess.”
The visuals are great but shocking. Cardi leaves the audience if she might be foreshadowing her ongoing legal woes and their results as it appears that she actually goes to jail. According to a report on The Sauce, American rapper Cardi B has been formally charged with assault, relating to a fight at a New York City strip club. The former stripper, whose real name is Belcalis Almanzar, had previously faced misdemeanor charges over the incident at Angels NYC in Queens in August 2018.
On Friday (21.06.19), a jury indicted the 26-year-old star on 14 charges, including two counts of assault with intent to cause serious physical injury.
The track ‘Press’ has already garnered 6M views on YouTube since its release yesterday (26.06.2019).
