WATCH: Vanessa Mdee weighs in on the lack of East African representation on The Lion King’s album

Top female East African musician Vanessa Mdee is crying foul over the lack of representation in the soundtrack album by Beyonce for the Disney blockbuster ‘The Lion King’.

Speaking to Lil Ommy TV, Mdee explained that considering that the iconic movie was based and shot in East Africa the use of West African acts was a slap in the face.

The ‘Moyo’ singer claimed that she was in talks to be featured in ‘The Gift’ album but the ‘conversation’ did not bear any fruits.

“I was shortlisted. I remember that there was a conversation. I never heard of it again and do not know what happened. I am not mad that Beyoncé worked on the album, because when you think about it, for those of us who travel, the only music they know about is Afro-Beat from West Africa.”

Artists from the continent who made the cut included Ghana’s Shatta Wale and Nigerians; Mr Eazi, Tekno, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade and Wizkid among others, The Sauce reported.

Vee Money known for hits like ‘Cash Madame’ also touched on her anticipated collabo with Congolese artist Fally Ipupa that is yet to be released since Diamond Platnumz ‘stole the show’ with the release of ‘Inama’ but she is not mad about that and that she will wait for the right time to drop the song.

Vanessa who is set to drop her EP ‘The Expensive’ soon, delved into her recent break up with Tanzanian RnB artist Juma Jux, mega Fashion Nova collaboration, the just concluded Essence Festival and dealing with haters.
