The iconic 70s show The Jeffersons got a reboot thanks to the ABC network.

The show which was a live sitcom special aired in front of a live audience and was released on 22nd May 2019. The show featured a great cast including Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington, Jennifer Hudson, Andrew Anderson, Jakee Harry, and Wanda Sykes. The show that was a great success brought back the Noman Near classic back to the screen to a new generation. The show also featured a very special appearance by the Marla Gibbs who played ‘Florence Johnston’ for the duration of the sitcom.

Celebrating nostalgia and the complexities of the different world we live in, audience reactions were a mixed bag as social issues such as racism, sexism, poverty, and politics came to the fore in the 2019 remake. Nonetheless, the show was more than a success with many just happy to see some of their favorite characters recreated onscreen once again. However, it seems the one thing most fans can agree on is Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson did justice to the show’s theme song.

Airing from 1975 to 1985, the show was a huge hit across America and also made it’s way worldwide endearing itself to audiences across borders because of its relatable comedy.

After 253 episodes, and 10 years onscreen the show was put to rest on July 2, 1985, after lasting 11 seasons.
