Whether your group is made up of four, seven or fifteen members, your friends are your partner in crime, grief-or-happiness sharing squad and some of the most important people in your life.
All of your friends have very distinct and different personalities and they play a slightly different (but no less integral) role. It is these differences that make your friend group work.
Here are the types of friends that are most likely in your friends group, starting with:
The Party Animal
This friend is a ball of fun and is always down for a good time. They will never turn down a chance to party. The party-goer lives in a constant state of FOMO and will basically say yes to anything. If you need someone to go out with after a hard day or a breakup on a Saturday night or a random Tuesday, they will be at your side. He/ she loves to party, smoke, get drunk and just have a good time. They will always be the first one to take shots and seem to always wind up drunker than everyone else, no matter how little they drink. The part animal believes a stiff drink can pretty much solve all the problems and they’re likely to convince you in seconds to stay for “just one more”. You love them but you can only hang with him/her occasionally because being a party animal is not a sustainable lifestyle.
The Comical Friend
He/she has the best sense of humor, possibly has the funniest laugh as well and cracks jokes that will keep you laughing till your eyes start pouring. They are always there for us and always bring the comic relief. You’re just always eager to see them because he/she will make you laugh in your bad times to lighten the mood and end up with a stomach ache, unable to breathe because you can’t stop laughing.
The Best Friend
This person is the ultimate friend. While you consider everyone in your friend group your best friends, there is one that you’re closer to than the rest. This is your BFF and your non-sexual life partner. There is one that you know will be standing by your side on your wedding day and she/he might even end up being your Maid of Honor or Best man. She/he is your person and couldn’t imagine life without them. You guys know each other so well that you don’t even have to speak. They’re the first person you want to tell when something good happens and you call on them for emergencies because you know that, come hell or high water, they’ll always be there for you when you need them the most. They’re trustworthy, empathetic and fiercely loyal. You’ve shared so much together that they feel more like a part of your family than your friend.
The Parent Friend
I’m pretty sure as soon as you read the word “parent” a friend instantly came to mind. This person is usually the most responsible one of the group and is basically the parent of the group. They always seem to take care of everyone and you love them like your mom and dad because they make you feel safe and comfortable. This friend will look out for those that get too drunk, stay up with you when you’re throwing up after everyone else has passed out and makes sure everyone gets home safely. Whether you are planning a trip- they are the ones who will plan everything, the budget, suggest the best activity ideas and always makes sure everyone is having a good time. If two people are having an argument, they’ll be the one to make peace.
The Disappearing Act
You might see them for a while, but then out of nowhere you don’t see them for weeks and sometimes even months. You know they’re ok though, they’re in just in tons of other friends groups, work full time or have a busy schedule. A lot of time this friend has a partner and they hang out with their significant other’s friends. Whenever you hang out in your friend’s group, it’s like they never left and you love them no matter how long they stay away.
The Tough Friend
This friend is arguably the most important of the bunch. To say they have a bad temper is a bit of an understatement and you’re not exactly sure how you ended up being friends as you were extremely intimidated by them when you first met. They will always back you up in a tough situation, sending back the wrong food in a restaurant and they’re basically the protector of the group. They don’t have a filter and will tell you straight up, what you need to hear because they care more about your well being than if you will be angry with them for what they’re saying. No one wants to hear that their boyfriend is a bad fit for them and that you should stop with all that break-up-and-get-back-together drama, when everyone is telling you it’s perfectly normal that you’re back together with that special someone for the 8th time. They’re fierce when it comes to defending you, but they’re also fierce when it comes to making sure you confront the issues within yourself too.
While each friend in your group is different, you love and accept them all just like they love and accept you. True friendship is a rare and precious gift, so don’t take it for granted.
