What a throwback! Suzanne Gachukia reveals Pres. Uhuru Kenyatta played a ‘worker’ in her 1980s musical

Suzanne Gachukia is one of the most well-connected individuals in the music industry.

A music industry heavyweight, Suzanne featured as a guest on the YouTube series ‘Cleaning the Airwaves’ hosted by Richard Njau aka A-Star. In the interview, Suzanne recounted how she developed a love for music as a young child. Getting her first piano at age 11; the gift sparked Suzanne’s musical interests leading her to get involved in music as a singer, choir coordinator before taking on bigger roles later in her career. The beautiful 58-year-old pointed out that while in her formative years she went on to develop an appreciation for classical music and even studied at the Kenya Conservatoire of Music as part of her secondary education.

Speaking about one of her most fond memories, Suzanne revealed that she wrote and hosted a very special musical at the Kenya National Theatre a few months after finishing high school with a few friends among them Njeri Gitau. The event had the Guest of Honor as the then-Vice President Mwai Kibaki and went on successfully on 4th and 5th May 1980 at the hallowed stage of the Kenya National Theatre.

In the interview, she mentions, “Out of high school, with Racheal (Omamo, current Minister of Defence) we wrote a musical in 1980. Fresh out of high school, I wrote this musical. I was working then, at ONM and I had a friend named of mine, we called her Gidi…she would come can help people come and rehearse, choreograph… in the dining room, garden …whatever. In the end, the President was in the musical.”

Giving the backstory to the ‘Endless Roads’ musical she recounted, ” Yes, he was in the musical. He was a ‘worker’ with his friends, his buddies. we put it up in the National Theatre for 2 nights.” As the autographed poster flashes across the screen, the 1980s musical dubbed ‘Endless Roads’ features some of Kenya’s biggest names including President Uhuru Kenyatta, Muhoho Kenyatta, Jimmy Wanjigi, David, Tony and Jimmi Kibaki, Susan Njonjo, Shiela Michuki, Maria Gakuo , Makena Mwiraria, Magaret Kibe, Juju Gachukia and Tony Gachukia.

Suzanne Gachukia has been a mainstay in the industry, getting involved in the careers of several big acts including Mercy Myra, The Longombas, Barbara Guantia, K-South Flava, Jomenes, Yunasi, Abbi, Kanja, and the BET Awards nominated Camp Mulla.

Suzanne has garnered quite the reputation for her musical capabilities especially so writing, production and talent management.
