South African Rapper AKA Killed At The Age Of 35

The shocking news of popular South African rapper AKA’s death has the continent reeling.

AKA whose real name was Kiernan Forbes was shot and killed in a shooting at a popular night spot on Durban’s Florida Road on Friday (02.10. 2023) night.

According to reports, the 35-year-old crooner was shot and killed along with another man. Forbes was shot while standing on the pavement when gunfire rang out shortly after 22:00.

Forbes was billed to perform in the city on Friday night, and footage posted on Instagram showed jovial scenes as the rapper toasted with a table full of friends. 

AKA broke into the South African hip-hop scene around 2009, with his first hit ‘Victory Lap’ catapulting him to stardom. Three successful albums later, the ‘Congratulate’ hitmaker was set to make his return, and release his first album in five years. The star most recently released single ‘Prada’, which features fellow South African rapper Khuli Chana.

Forbes’ fiancé Anele Tembe fell to her death in her Cape Town hotel room in April 2021.
