Singer-Songwriter Solange Piaget Knowles has a flair for the dramatics, and is gifted in various aspects of artistic expression.
The Houston born and raised artist recently shared a collaborative project with Melina Matsoukas under the Beats by Dre brand that addresses various truths about the racial tensions in America. The project dubbed ‘You Love Me’ first premiered online via a post she shared on Instagram yesterday (16.11.2020).
In the teaser, the ‘Almeda’ crooner shared, are various quintesential images associated with African American life, and culture. The visuals have since received great feedback, but more importantly the message of the acceptance of black culture and not it’s people hopes to further the cause of the Black Lives Matter movement. The short features tennis star Naomi Osaka, rapper Lil Baby, Bubba Wallace, and Janaya Khan and narrated by Tobe Ngiwe.
In many ways this project could be a springboard for more discussions on race relations, cultural appropriate and could be a catalyst for change. A description of the project noted “Those who touched this piece have seen the world actively love their art or their athletic achievements, while also seeing the world continually oppress the Black community at large. Beats, the creatives, and the cast joined together with the unified goal of inspiring Black youth by highlighting the everyday beauty and rich diversity of their culture.”
Solange was once known for being Beyonce’s younger sister but has stepped out as her own talent when she got her big break with the 2016 album ‘A Seat At The Table.’ The artist project which featured alternative sounds showcased her capabilities earning her several nominations as well as the esteemed Edison Jazz/World Soul Awards.
