She may be a new kid on the block, but her accolades and achievements keep coming her way. Sofiya Nzau now ties Diamond Platnumz as the most streamed artistes in East Africa.
Thanks to the whirlwind success of her 2023 hit ‘Mwaki’ and its global appeal, Sofiya Nzau now has a record 1.4 million listeners, a groundbreaking number previously only held by the Tanzanian pop singer.
‘Mwaki’ is majorly to attribute for said success. Since its release by both Nzau and Brazilian jockey Zerb, the EDM-tinged track has become a chart fixture and global anthem, now sitting pretty with over 16 million streams on the giant streaming platform.
The hit also has been remixed by Dutch DJ and producer Tiesto on ‘Tiesto’s VIP Mix’ dubbed remix and also has a sped up alternative, both of which also boast of spectacular streams.
Newly-released minimalist footage shows Nzau and Zerb shooting the music video to the hit, to the excitement of fans. The two also recently staged a Diani performance, marking the first time they have shared the stage together.
Nzau performed the song in a landmark maiden performance at Blankets & Wine in December last year. She recently teamed up with Fully Focus on a cover of popular Kikuyu hit ‘Tiga Kúmúte’ by legendary Kikuyu Benga singer JB Maina.
