Sean MMG is a household name and has a significant presence in the Arbantone music genre, a popular and evolving sound in Kenya. Recognized as one of the key artists in the Arbantone scene, he is often mentioned alongside other notable Arbantone artists like YBW Smith, Gody Tennor, and Tipsy Gee.
Thanks to his growing music catalogue, trendy lyrics and influence that has earned him a significant social media following, he is hitherto enjoying the perks of his successful, which would include his latest partnership with KCB.
“As a young in this game, I have enjoyed the ride thus far. My talent has taken me as far as earning a visa and enabled me to travel far and wide. Being able to tour different places has been essential in giving me colossal amounts of exposure which I’m very grateful for,” He tells The Sauce.
True to his sentiments, the artist is riding high on his latest partnership with KCB that culminated in the release of “Nitakupanga,” a soundtrack to the bank’s newly launched mobile banking app, and that also features fellow artists Ssaru, Breeder LW and producer Motif Di Don. “It was surreal. I’m used to seeing big corporates aligning themselves with only certain brands mostly, so having them reach out to an entertainer like me was almost available. I was so excited,” He says of the collaboration, imploring other brands to join the bandwagon and partner with entertainers.
“”Nitakupanga” was one of the songs that took the shortest time to create for me. My collaborators took about 30 minutes to write the lyrics before laying down the song. As regards my creative process, I either write on a beat or write without even hearing a beat first. It is all dependent on the day and mood,” He says, adding that his first ever recorded song “Mi Amor” was the hardest he has ever had to record.
Advice To Creatives
Sean asserts: “You need an able team to help you navigate the industry’s maze. It is impossible to have any level of smooth sailing when doing it all alone. Then, when the big bucks start coming in, be smart with your spending.”
Dream Collab
Asked who his dream collaborator would be, Sean excitedly name drops Mugiithi star Samidoh, arguing a duet between them would enable him (Sean) reach an ever broader audience and permeate an older demographic too.
Sean promises frequent releases for the rest of the year and ascertains that he has recorded enough material to fill an album, something he has his eyes on.
