In the wake of disturbing allegations of assault emerging over the weekend, the Nairobi Polo Club has swiftly responded with a statement condemning the reported incident.
The club, renowned for its prestigious events, found itself embroiled in controversy after Instagram stories surfaced, posted by Zoe Nabutilu, alleging that she was assaulted by a certain Nigel Akala at the club grounds during the Soldiers Salute cup event. Nabutilu further claims that Akala attempted to remove her undergarments, sparking widespread outrage on social media platforms.
In a bid to address the mounting concerns and uphold its commitment to the safety of all attendees, the Nairobi Polo Club released a resolute statement. “In response to the recent alleged assault incident at Nairobi Polo Club, we want to emphatically state that the club does not tolerate any form of misconduct by any party,” the statement reads, underscoring the club’s zero-tolerance policy towards such egregious behavior.
The gravity of Nabutilu’s allegations has prompted a wave of solidarity from other women, some of whom have come forward with their own accounts of previous encounters with Akala. These testimonies highlight a troubling pattern of behavior that cannot be ignored.
With the upcoming Chairman’s Cup—the final polo tournament of the quarter—looming on the horizon, the Nairobi Polo Club finds itself at a critical juncture. While the club remains committed to hosting premier events, it also recognizes the imperative of ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
