Mary J. Blige has joined ‘Pink Skies Ahead’ and is set to make her mark in Hollywood with a brand new Lionsgate deal.
The 48-year-old singer-and-actress has boarded the forthcoming adaptation of the essay ‘No Real Danger’ from Kelly Oxford’s second book ‘When You Find Out The World Is Against You’ alongside ‘Laverne & Shirley’ actor Michael McKean, ‘Lady Bird’ actress Odeya Rush and Ashlee + Evan musician Evan Ross.
The film will tell the story of a wild young woman, portrayed by ‘End of the F***ing World’ star Jessica Barden, who is forced to drop out of college and move back in with her parents after being diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.
The ‘Family Affair’ hitmaker will play a therapist who attempts to help the lead character cope with her increasing panic attacks while McKean will play her father who employs her at his property management company.
The cast will also include Henry Winkler, Marcia Gay Harden, Rosa Salazar, Lewis Pullman, and Devon Bostic.
Mary J. Blige has been dipping her feet into the industry of films appearing in various Hollywood productions including and now is set to make a mark on the Hollywood landscape. According to a recent report, Mary inked a first look deal with Lionsgate studios. The Source reported “the iconic singer’s new deal with the studio will develop and produce series through Blige’s recently launched Blue Butterfly Productions. She will also be given access to create content for all the studios’ platforms.”
The 2019 BET Lifetime Achievement award winner commented on the new collaboration saying, “I couldn’t be more excited to be working with Lionsgate,” stated Blige of the union. “They are incredible collaborators and have been natural partners from when we first started talking. I can’t wait to bring all of our projects to life.”
Lionsgate Television Group chairman Kevin Beggs also commented, stating, “Mary is a very talented artist, fearless visionary and an incredible human being. We’re delighted to be working with someone with such a powerful and impactful creative voice. Every art she touches blossoms, and we’re humbled she’s chosen us as her home. We look forward to all the exciting new content Mary and her Blue Butterfly banner will bring to our television slate and Lionsgate 360 orbit.”
Blige made her acting debut in ‘Prison Song’ in 2001 and starred in Tyler Perry’s ‘I Can Do Bad All By Myself’ and Tom Cruise’s ‘Rock of Ages’ and in 2017 her role in wartime drama ‘Mudbound’ won her two Oscar nominations for best supporting actress and in the original song category for ‘Mighty River.’
The ‘Real Love’ singer most recently starred in the Netflix superhero series ‘The Umbrella Academy’ which was based on the comic book series of the same name created by former My Chemical Romance frontman, Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá.
