American actress Kerry Washington, best known for her role in the hit TV series ‘Scandal’ as Olivia Pope, is set to release a memoir titled ‘Thicker than Water.’
In a recent 20/20 interview, she opened up about her deepest emotions regarding a toxic pattern she experienced during her college years.
In her meticulously crafted memoir, she shares her personal growth journey, insights on discovering her purpose, and various aspects of life and personal development. the mother of two, widely known for her private nature, revealed in vivid detail how her relationship with food and her body spiraled into a toxic pattern that became uncontrollable during her college years.
The actress, who began her career in the 2000s with ‘Our Song,’ emotionally disclosed that she went through a period of starvation, binge eating, and excessive hours spent in the gym. She added that despite indulging in behaviors like excessive drinking, promiscuity, or sleep deprivation, she somehow managed to maintain a balance between her academic commitments and personal life. She confessed to feeling guilty for almost believing that her self-destructive behaviors were slowly consuming her, and she even battled thoughts of suicide.
The 46-year-old celebrated for her breakthrough roles in movies like ‘Bad Company’ and ‘Save The Last Dance,’ lightly expressed that her relationship with herself has evolved into a healthier one. She stated, “I mean, I wouldn’t say that I’d never act out with food,” in a recent interview. “It’s just very different now. It’s not to the extreme. There’s no suicidal ideation. That is not where I am anymore.”
She emphasized that her candid confession is not driven by a desire for attention or fame but rather to connect with those who can relate to her story.
Kerry Washington’s memoir is scheduled to be released on September 26th.
