The 2024 Kalasha Awards nominations are out just in time for the annual awards ceremony.
This year’s ceremony boasts of a record-breaking 1500 entries drawn from 37 categories, a notable increase compared to previous years and a sign of exponential growth, with the biggest notable surge in submissions being in the animations. Another commendable growth sign is the increase of International category submissions, that speaks to Kenya’s growing presence on the global film stage.
The upcoming 13th edition of the awards ceremony will the culmination of a week-long festival that will see local international delegates assemble, with the venue and slated to be KICC and March 30 respectively.

A jury comprising of seasoned professionals from diverse film and television backgrounds was responsible for the rigorous evaluation and selection of the nominees. The jury comprised of Naftally Muriuki – Association of Animation Artists of Kenya (A3K), Elias Nabutete – Kenya Scriptwriters Guild (KSG), Annabel Cheshiniwe – Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB), Charity Torut- Kenya Film Commission (KFC), Ledama Sempele- Kenya Film and Television Professionals Association (KFTPA).
“We were deeply impressed by the sheer volume and creativity present in this year’s submissions. The remarkable increase in entries, particularly in animation, is a powerful testament to the immense potential and growth of Kenyan filmmaking. Selecting the nominees proved challenging yet rewarding, and we firmly believe we’ve chosen works that truly embody the best of Kenyan and international film and television,” Says Lucy Mwangi, Producers Guild Kalasha Awards Chairperson.
