How To Make The Most Of Your Christmas As A Couple

The cheerful month of December is finally upon us.

If this happens to be your first Christmas with your partner as a married couple, newly engaged, or in a new relationship, why not make it one to treasure forever?

Whether it’s going to be just the two of you for the holidays or you’re looking to do something bigger with the extended family there is a special way for everyone to celebrate. There are plenty of ways you can make the most of your first Christmas that you’ll cherish forever.

Decorate together

What’s Christmas without merry decorations? Make sure every nook and cranny of your new home has new memories. Use a mix of the decorations you both already own with the new ones you could buy together and get into the festive spirit. This will help reflect the melding of your families as well as the evolution of your own. You can make the most of this moment by turning on your favorite Christmas playlist, assemble your tree and decorate your home with wreaths and garlands.

Honor old traditions and create new ones

Holiday traditions are an important part of the season and they should be honored and respected as they help create a bond between you and your partner. If you’re used to spending Christmas with your extended family, hold on to that tradition. Instead of having dinner or lunch at your family house, host this year’s event at your new place. Invite your closest friends and family members to be part of your Nyama Choma(Mbuzi) party, Secret Santa and make it fun and silly or serious and thoughtful. You and your partner might even want to make it a yearly tradition. If you don’t have a special family tradition, you can always create one for your own and think about your future kids and how you’d want them to remember these special moments.

Plan time for just the two of you

Take time for yourselves. The holidays can be a hectic time, with endless work holiday parties and family gathering events to attend. If you have time to spare away from work and other obligations make it a priority to spend most of that time with your partner so you can reconnect without distractions. Make sure to schedule some alone time together, whether it’s lounging around the house, spending time enjoying each other’s hobbies, a romantic dinner out or watching holiday movies while ordering from your favorite restaurant. Whatever your holiday season celebration looks like this year, keep it fun and enjoyable.

Go on a special trip

Make your newlywed or newly engaged Christmas extra noteworthy by taking a trip to somewhere new and discover places you both have never been to. Even if you traditionally celebrate with the extended family, it could be fun and ultra-romantic to mix it up this year and relax and learn more about each other.

Spending your first Christmas together as a couple in a new home is a magical milestone and creating memories doesn’t have to be a hard task. Make sure to always keep your family traditions alive and come up with some new festive traditions. One day they’ll be the reason of celebration for your kids and then grandkids. Enjoy your holiday and have a Merry Christmas.
