Gen Z Slang Words Simp, Bussin, Rizz And More Added To The Dictionary

What a time to be alive! The Merriam-Webster dictionary has an addition 690 new words that range from Gen Z slang expressions to food terms to digital phrases.

The new entries are mostly Gen Z slang words commonly heard on platforms like TikTok. They include, girlboss, grammable, beast mode, thirst trap, mid, TTYL TTYL (aka, talk to you later), NGL, (not gonna lie), rizz, bussin, simp, goated and more.

“Signs of a healthy language include words being created, words being borrowed from other languages, and new meanings being given to existing words,” Merriam-Webster explains on its website. “Based on our most recent research, we are pleased to inform you that English is very (very!) healthy.”

Here are some of the words and the definitions.

GOATED
Merriam-Webster definition: “Considered to be the greatest of all time.”

Girlboss
Merriam-Webster definition: “An ambitious and successful woman (especially a businesswoman or entrepreneur).”

Bussin’
Merriam-Webster definition: “Extremely good, excellent” or “delicious, tasty.”

Rizz
Merriam-Webster definition: “Romantic appeal or charm” or “to charm or seduce”

Mid
Merriam-Webster definition: “Neither very good nor very bad” or “so-so, meh.”

Beast mode
Merriam-Webster definition: “An extremely aggressive or energetic style or manner that someone (such as an athlete) adopts temporarily (as to overpower an opponent in a fight or competition).”

Grammable
Merriam-Webster definition: “Suitable to be posted on the Instagram photo-sharing service.”
