Former president Kibaki’s daughter is set to auction off flamboyant city businessman Kevin Obia’s property over unpaid rent, reports suggest.
The rent arrears of Obia’s house located at Chalbi Drive in Lavington reportedly amount to $2.4 million. He is set to lose household goods on Wednesday, April 24, as Judy Wanjiku Kibaki – his landlady – seeks to recover damages. She accuses him of failing to pay his Sh 350, 000 monthly rent as per their lease agreement that was signed which was entered on March 1, 2022.
“Since occupying the premises in question, the plaintiff has consistently failed to pay the monthly rent. As at 31 January 2023, the applicant (Obia) was in arrears of rent amounting to Ksh 2,780,000. He paid Ksh 996,000 on 28 February 2023 after receiving a demand letter from my lawyer,” Reads an excerpt from the court papers.
Citing financial challenges, Obia had asked the court to allow him to pay Sh 500, 000 monthly from February 23, 2023 to clear the rent arrears while concurrently paying the Sh 350, 000 monthly rent.
