In Taiwan, 25-year-old American Marina Shifrin was so frustrated with her job at Next Media Animation that she quit — in spectacular style. Ironically, Next Media Animation is famous for making animated videos that go viral… so Marina made a little viral video of her own. She broke into the office at 4:30am and filmed herself dancing on desks and in the office to the Kanye West track “Gone” in protest of what she saw as her boss’s prioritizing of quantity over quality. The video is subtitled with messages like: “For almost two years I’ve sacrificed my relationships, time and energy for this job… And my boss only cares about quantity and how many views each video gets.” It ends with her turning the office lights off with the message, “I quit”. So far, her resignation video has been watched by over eight million people.
The company responded in similar manner – through a video featuring some employees dancing to the same Kanye’s song and announced they are hiring.
Quite interesting, unless this whole charade is a marketing gimmick, which of course makes the company brilliant.
