Machakos University is faced with uncertainty amid protests.
Police were forced to fire in the air and use tear gas yesterday to disperse rowdy Machakos University students. The protest saw students block the busy Machakos-Wote road, raising concerns over fees hike among other issues.
The institution has taken measures to intensify security in and outside the campus, in the wake of the protests. The university last faced turmoil in 2016 “after arsonists burnt offices and vital procurement documents to protest against botched polls” according to The Star. The university’s social media accounts are yet to share any communication from the institution’s management.
