17 University of Nairobi students have received scholarships worth Kshs 2.2M from the Direct Aid Africa Muslim Agency, Kuwait.
The new partnership was revealed by Dr. Idle Farah, the Vice Chancellor. The UMMA University and former chairman of the council UoN Dr. Frah was present during a cheque presentation ceremony that was held on Monday evening January 21, 2019, at the Vice Chancellor’s parlor.
In his remarks, Dr. Farah elaborated that among the 17 students who received the scholarship, 12 are studying medicine, 2 were studying Engineering, 1 is in Pharmacy, one in Nursing and one in International Studies. He briefly took the audience through the history of Direct Aid Africa Muslim Agency and how its founder was passionate about education. He said that the agency is sponsoring a number or organizations in Africa and the University of Nairobi is one of them.
On his part, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi, welcomed the partnership from Kuwait citing that the international partnership is in accordance with the strategic plan of the University. He elaborated, “As a University, we have never exploited the East before, we have worked with Europe and the USA and yet there are resources also in the Middle East.”
Prof. Mbithi expressed his gratitude to Direct Aid Africa Muslim Agency for making a huge contribution to the students and emphasized his commitment to the partnership.
