This is the second year in a row that the African Giant has won this award beating out the likes of South Africa’s Sho Madjozi, Innoss’B from DRC and Stormzy from the UK.

As the show was hosted virtually this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic, supermodel Naomi Campbell who is an avid Afrobeats fan presented the award to her friend Burna from home.

Meanwhile, Burna had a message for the Black Lives Matter movement saying that for the Black Lives Matter movement to matter, Africa has to matter.

Burna recently released a new track dubbed ‘Wonderful’. “From the song’s a capella start, Burna’s powerful harmonies swim between English and African languages. Simple percussion layers into a satisfying build, accentuated by whoops, rattles, glimmers, and twinkles of sound. He takes pride in making the kind of musical magic that stirs souls,” Pitchfork reported.

Other winners of the night include, Zimbabwean Sha Sha for the Viewer’s Choice, Best new International act, Beyonce, Lizzo, Chris Brown and more.
