Jamaican reggae icon Buju Banton has teamed up with Ugandan singer turned politician Bobi Wine on a new song dubbed ‘Bullet or Ballot’.
‘Bullet or Ballot’ is a revolutionary jam where Bobi Wine and Buju Banton insist that even if it takes a revolution, they must attain freedom whether by Bullet or Ballot.
The song opens up with a famous quote “There is no easy road to freedom” by the late South African President Nelson Mandela in his 1994 inaugural speech.
In the video, different clips are put together showing policemen harassing the Kyadondo East lawmaker when he was struck on different occasions. In the riot clips, the law enforcers are seen firing bullets, teargas and arresting Ugandans.
Reports indicate that the song was recorded during Bobi Wine’s visit to Jamaica to perform at the just Rebel Salute Reggae Festival in January 2019.
Sharing his experience in Jamaica, Bobi Wine noted that one of the many lessons he learned from his childhood idol, is that jail is part of the price those who fight for freedom must pay before things get better.
This lesson is considered the main inspiration behind this new song.
