The attempted murder charges against Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has been dropped Tuesday, December 14.
In the ruling, Magistrate Bernard Ochoi stated that the charges against the controversial MP were dropped, after the complainant and victim Felix Orinda alias DJ Evolve file applications to the same effect. Ochoi also noted that the two were friends before and after the shooting incident that saw the DJ get bedridden for years and that the legislator had continued taking care of the club entertainer’s welfare.
The MP had previously sought to have an out of court settlement that was denied by the court after the 2018 active shooting incident at a Kilimani club. The MP will, however, face one charge of disorderly behavior while in possession of a firearm.
Today’s prosecution confirmed that the two parties had been having talks towards an out of court settlement for quite some time. DJ Evolve first went to court in October last year seeking to have the case against Owino withdrawn, citing his need for peace and a swift healing as he said the divided attention was inhibiting his recovery. His request was however denied by the Office of the Director Of Public Prosecutions who said they needed more time for the DJ’s mental state.
