In her own words, Sofiya Nzau’s powerful lyrism tells a story of “finding freedom whilst honoring one’s roots. Compelled to explore the confirmative dynamic of young African girls face in particular; “Wacuka is about the tension between choosing to follow tradition and expressing individuality. It’s a feeling that resonates with many, but I wanted to capture both the struggle and the hope in the lyrics.”
