Renowned actor Jamie Foxx faces allegations of sexual assault in a lawsuit filed in New York City on Wednesday, accusing him of inappropriate behavior at a Manhattan rooftop bar and restaurant back in August 2015.
The plaintiff, identified as Jane Doe in the complaint, recounts an incident at the Catch NYC rooftop lounge. According to her statement, the assault took place in a secluded corner after she and a friend approached the film star for pictures.
The legal filing details how Foxx allegedly began groping the woman without her consent, going so far as to put his hands under her clothing. The encounter was interrupted by her friend, prompting her to leave the scene.
Foxx, known for his Academy Award-winning portrayal of Ray Charles in the 2004 film “Ray” and an Oscar-nominated supporting role in “Collateral” the same year, is the latest high-profile figure after the likes of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs to face accusations of sexual misconduct.
These allegations come amid a wave of lawsuits filed under the Adult Survivors Act, a New York state law that allows such cases to be brought to court even if the statutes of limitations have expired. The special one-year window for such complaints, granted by the law, is set to close at the end of this month.
The outcome of this legal battle may significantly impact the actor’s reputation and career.
