Ivorian reggae legend Alpha Blondy got married in a private ceremony this past weekend.

The 67-year-old crooner best known for hit songs like ‘Jerusalem’ and ‘Cocody Rock’ got hitched to his long-term Tunisian girlfriend Aelissa Darragi at the Grand Mosque at the Riviera Golf in Abidjan, Ivory Coast on the 22nd of February 2020.

Alpha Blondy whose real name is Seydou Kone decided to seal his alliance before God and before men with Aelissa, the radio host of Alpha Blondy Fm, editor’s note after their traditional wedding ceremony in early 2019. Aelissa was showing off her growing baby bump at that time.
Ivory Coast Defence minister Hamed Bakayoko who was part of the wedding ceremony was the first to post pictures from the wedding itself congratulating Blondy and his wife for the occasion.
“Had the pleasure of an officer this Saturday, February 22th, the civil celebration of the wedding of Reggae world star Alpha Blondy. Happy cleaning to you Jagger and your beautiful wife,” he posted.
The father of nine was previously married to a Korean woman named Ran Young Hong-Koné, it is still unclear if the Reggae star divorced her to marry Aelissa but since he is Muslim, Islamic laws allows him to marry up to four wives.
Born in Ivory Coast in 1953, Alpha Blondy grew to be one of the world’s most popular reggae acts throughout the ’80s and ’90s. Singing his songs in multiple languages, he used his music to address political and spiritual issues, with some of his most popular songs dealing with political topics of the times.
