Working out is fun, relieves stress and gets the body banging and face beaming from all the sweating and hydration, which is a good thing. Something beginners will take three to four weeks of consistent training to actually attest to.
Now for anyone who is starting out, there is always that attrition against getting to the gym. The body aches, you are shy, probably don’t know anyone, aren’t quite conversant with gym equipment and perhaps not too keen on the classroom mentality of group classes.
Many have the, “I need to be consistent and devoted, cut all sugar and lift weights to lose and build muscle at the same time” kind of mentality. This is draining, boring and the body ultimately shuts down. That’s why people pay and never show up after the second week. Your mentality is everything.
Just like running on the treadmill staring dead at the calorie count only makes you even more exhausted, the same thing with working out with all these dos and don’ts in the mind. Letting go of the classroom mentality will alleviate stress which by the way hinders weight loss. Not because you have worked out for two weeks consecutively but because you have given yourself the freedom to have fun and just be for a month hence tremendous results.
So what keeps you going after the second week?
1. Loud music
See how in a jav that is bumming all thoughts just poof and disappear, and in that one hour or thirty minutes you experience nirvana. Imagine that in comfy joggers and sneakers. Whether on the treadmill, weights or at aerobics the music played always touches a nerve. Modern gyms will have a nice mix of RnB, some Rhumba, Bongo, and classics. There is always something about listening to music you never would have in a normal circumstance. It gives a refreshing, relaxing vibe or adrenaline rush that when coupled with some intense activities gives you bliss. Again, and this time you are crushing those calories.
2. Hotties
Ever watched a YouTube video of Koroga or any other funky function and wondered where are all these hot guys hiding at when I am out? The gym! Pack that bag and get down there. Gyms are full of nice looking guys, tall, short, dark, light, mixed race, Caucasian, Asian whichever. They are all there. And only a quick run on the treadmill or a session of weight lifting will make you realize how relatable and friendly they all can be. Here one gets to master how to keep calm around gorgeous looking men and women. Please note this will not be the case if the goal is to catch the gym in the ghost town hour, a tendency of many beginners.
3. Friends
The gym attracts a certain type of people. Committed, driven and self-sustained, for the most part. It basically plays out as a completely different environment. New people, new ideas, new levels. Yet another opportunity to delve into new perspectives and live or rather see life from other people’s prisms, which is refreshing and challenging. Getting out and involved with many different people can light up some really dark unattended corners.
4. Great digestion
After the third set of sit-ups, a round of jumping jacks and 45 seconds of planking, the body adjusts in all the right way, my friend. These intense movements will clear your insides in ways that not even sukuma wiki (kale) can. It’s refreshing how lighter one feels and almost sad how blotted we all are and are never aware until that first dump after a proper workout.
Complaints of nausea, fatigue, and general discomfort become a thing of the past. All these are also aided with the tone of water intake during a workout as one hydrate.
Let loose and be easy, give it time and love on the process. Hitting the gym does not have to feel like a chore.
