In light of the shocking sex scandal involving popular gospel artists HopeKid and DK Kwenye Beat, one might think this is the first time a member of the Gospel industry has been exposed. But this is not the first time that men of God have been in the middle of jaw-dropping sex-related scandals.
Last week, artists HopeKid and DK Kwenye Beat were accused by a 20-year-old girl from Nakuru of having a threesome and later being infected with sexually transmitted infections, HPV and Herpes. The two admitted the allegations were true and apologized on Facebook.
Here is a list of some of the most disgraceful scandals to rock the Gospel industry:
1. This week, a popular Youth pastor Ken Gomeri known for his school outreach programs is being accused of sexually assaulting teenage girls. Taking to Twitter on Saturday, the girl – Purity (username: @NdutaSs) narrated how the prominent youthful pastor allegedly tried to solicit for sex from her and her friends three years ago. Mr. Gomeri is yet to respond to the allegations.
2. A couple of years ago, former M.O.G group member Paul Onyango aka Boss was exposed by one Jane Wangira for soliciting for sex from her on social media in a series of vulgar and thirsty screenshots. In his defense, the “Vumilia” hitmaker denied the claims saying his social media accounts had been hacked by malicious individuals who wanted to taint his image.
3. In 2005, twelve-time Grammy award-winning American gospel musician Kirk Franklin made headlines when he appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show to talk about his pornography addiction. According to the “I Smile” singer He first viewed pornography at the age of 8 and struggled with addiction for nearly 22 years. He attributed the addiction to years of sexual abuse at home when he was growing up.
4. In 2013, The Guardian reported that Kenyan UK-based pastor Bishop Gilbert Deya was charged with sexual assault and raping a 14-year-old girl. The charges included 3 counts of rape and one count of attempted rape. Deya is famously known for working with some Kenyan authorities to aid him in his business of smuggling babies from Kenya to Britain. He is also famously known to perform ‘miracle’ of making infertile women pregnant. In 2014, Deya was reportedly acquitted of the charges.
Others who have been affiliated with sex-related scandals include Gospel singer Ringtone Apoko was accused impregnating a woman named Angel Nyambura a couple of years ago and the singer denied responsibility. He later called out fellow singers Willy Paul and Pitson for being behind the story and trying to tarnish his name.
Born-again former TV personality Johnson Mwakazi, in 2011 the ‘Golden voice’ as he is popularly referred to revealed a shocking addiction on ‘Turning Point’. He revealed that he had been addicted to pornography from the age of 14 years old.
