Michelle Watiti is a mental health advocate, and a person living with bipolar.
The 20-year-old well-spoken Daystar University student is a confident, sociable young woman who is keen to change the narrative around bipolar an working towards de-stigmatizing conversations around mental health. Diagnosed with the often misconstrued mental health disease at age 19, she pointed out that she was also previously misdiagnosed with an anxiety disorder before finally receiving the proper diagnosis.
The young millennial noted that she hopes that more would re-think their approach to mental health, access to healthcare as well as how the general public interacts with persons living with mental health disorders. “We still do not have compassion for those living with mental health issues…Just because people have mental health issues does not mean that they are any less of a contributor to society.”
