Zetech University scoops awards in Drama Festival qualifiers

In a heated battle of the arts in Meru County, Zetech University impressed in the drama festivals competition, beating seasoned opponents to come out on top in the hotly contested festival.

The varsity’s drama team put on an impressive front, managing to get six out of their seven items into the coveted national festival set for April, securing victories in the cultural dance, sole verse, and comedy categories.

Clad in colorful football gear, the Zetech side presented a winning piece dubbed “Mashemeji Dabi” a presentation centered on national cohesion and integration, clinching the top prize in the cultural dance category. In addition to this, their solo verse “Emergency Room” and standup comedy educational background Parafanalias were also awarded the position one prize, qualifying for the national fete that will take place in Nairobi.

Lauding the students for an excellent performance, Dr. Alice Njuguna, Acting Vice Chancellor congratulated the team, highlighting the institution’s commitment to providing a rich student experience for students, through talent identification and development.

“We are proud of the Zetech University drama team, which has displayed excellent performance over the years in the annual drama festivals. As an institution, we value all aspects of our students’ lives and we take pride in providing our students with opportunities to grow and showcase their talent.” Dr. Njunguna said.

In addition, the team secured special awards in the Best Costume and décor awards in the solo verse and cultural dance categories, the best solo verse in English and came in third in the best costume awards in the choral verse competition. In the modern creative dance, the varsity’s piece Judas is Carrot came in second during the regional finals while their English play Pillars of the Earth and dramatized choral verse Dimba came in third during the intense outing.

Celebrating the team’s success, Moses Maina, Executive Director, Corporate Affairs and Registrar Academic Affairs, appreciated the students for a sterling performance, and specially recognized Geoffrey Omunga who was the Best Male Soloist, David Musuku who was the Best Male Dancer and Lydia Murugi awarded the Best Female dancer recognition.

“The Zetech drama team has once again excelled following their dedication and diligence while preparing for the event. Indeed, the entire fraternity congratulates the talented gents and ladies and we look forward to additional wins in the upcoming national competition.” Moses said.
