Young Mbugua of ‘Mathwiti’ fame releases a song recounting his experiences

Internet sensation James Mbugua, popularly known as ‘Mbugua Mathwiti’ or ‘Young Mbugua’ has released a song titled ‘Mathwiti’.

Five years ago, Mbugua was recorded narrating his frustrations of missing out on a birthday party in his mother tongue of Gikuyu. Mbugua explained how he missed the chance to eat sweets and cakes at a birthday party that he had attended because he was not clean. His dramatic facial expressions in the video were an instant hit across social media.

The viral video caught the attention of the members of the public and this led to many well-wishers including Media Max owned radio station Kameme FM to bring him gifts, clothes, and food.

The song describes an emotional story from rags to riches. Mbugua in the song recounts his struggles five years ago and goes ahead to explain how God has changed his life and how media and TV personalities now flock his home to bring him food and clothes. Mbugua later adds that he has money and can now afford the cakes and sweets.

Released three days ago, the song has already hit over 130,000 views on YouTube and counting. It’s also one of the top trending songs in Kenya.
