Young Engineer honoured for developing Africa’s first Cardio Tablet

Arthur cardiopad

Arthur Zang is one of the winners in the Rolex Awards for Enterprise for his work in creating Africa’s first medical tablet. The touch screen tablet allows health-care workers in rural areas to send the results of cardiac tests to heart specialists via a mobile-phone connection.

The CardioPad enables remote heart examinations such as the electrocardiogram (ECG) and the results sent to specialists who interpret for treatment. The tablet could save lives across Africa especially in remote parts where there are inadequate medical facilities.

Radio Netherlands interviewed Arthur two years ago who explained the difference  between the Cardiopad and the classical electrocardiograph, “The Cardiopad has more functions. With the classical electrocardiograph, the results were usually printed on paper and handed to the cardiologist for interpretation.
